After ACS

Alumni travel and move around the world: to Manhattan to help start a church, to Cambodia to work for the International Justice Mission, and to the White House to work on economic matters. They work for Disney and design websites in Augusta, teach in Peru, and work for the Smithsonian in Washington, DC.

They also return to Augusta to build the city where they grew up by teaching at Augusta Christian and in public schools, starting their own businesses, working in the film industry, practicing law and medicine, and working for community nonprofits.

As one staff member said, “We love that our graduates think highly enough of ACS to want to come back and teach here.” ACS alumni are making a difference all over the world. That’s what “Building Kingdom Leaders” is all about.

3 John 4 in the Message states, “Nothing could make me happier than getting reports that my children continue diligently in the way of Truth!” May it ever be so!

Lessons Learned from Math Class…

Isaiah Brown

My name is Isaiah Brown and I graduated from ACS in 2015. I’m currently a third year medical student at the University of Chicago. I’m undecided in what specialty I’ll pursue, but I am thinking about surgery, emergency medicine, or interventional radiology. In my free time you can find me hanging out with my friends, teaching emergency preparedness on the Southside of Chicago, or enjoying a nice R&B concert.

Lessons I Learned from High School Math:

Doing well in Mrs. White’s courses gave me a lot of confidence and a stronger work ethic coming out of high school. I learned what it meant to work hard and challenge myself academically. Although my college and medical school courses were very different, I figured things out based on the habits I formed taking difficult courses at AC. It’s better to understand your learning style and preferred study habits earlier than later!

Advice for Success:

You never know where you’ll end up the moment you begin to apply yourself. God will use you in ways you can’t imagine so give your all in everything you do and don’t put limits on what you think you’re capable of. Even if you don’t know why, things will come full circle. Trust me!

Grace Perez

I am currently enrolled in college at Southern New Hampshire University pursuing a degree in Mathematics. My hope is to get my teaching certification after college and to become a high school math teacher. I want to impact kids’ lives by showing them that math can be fun and exciting by providing a loving and fun learning environment that they will thrive in. In my free time I love to travel and do it as frequently as I can. I am very active in my church ministry as well.

Lessons I Learned from High School Math:

My high school math experience provided me with the drive to push myself to always give a hundred and ten

percent to anything I am doing. It taught me the importance of hard work and gave me the ability to know how to pace myself in classes. My high school math experience also taught me how to ask for help when I was struggling. It taught me to lean on my peers and my teachers when I could not figure something out.

Reaching Goals in the Midst of Difficulties:

In recent years school has sadly taken a back seat to a lot of things in my life. I had to take a year off after the death of my mother and when I got back it was hard to stay focused. The Lord provided me with a great support system that helped push me to finish my degree. In May I will graduate with a math degree, and I cannot wait to see where the Lord leads me after this. I know He has great things in store for me. There are not enough words for me to say thank you to Mrs. White and Augusta Christian for all their hard work in preparing me to be successful in the future.

Joseph McElmurray

I am a recent graduate from Augusta University and I majored in mathematics with a minor in Spanish. Being involved in ministry is something that is very important to me, and I had the privilege of serving at the Baptist Collegiate Ministry at Augusta University and am currently serving at the Youth Ministry for Crawford Avenue Baptist Church. I also like to draw and play video games for fun and especially enjoy Nintendo games.

Lessons I Learned from High School Math:

My high school math experience has been very beneficial to me and is something that the Lord has used to grow me in diligence as well as in my faith. The consistent practice and studying that challenging math courses require has helped me push myself to not shy away from taking rigorous courses and to not be intimidated by hard work.

A Deepened View of God:

Developing effective study habits in high school has proven to be very helpful in succeeding in college as well since, by God’s grace, I was able to graduate at the top of my class at Augusta University. Math is also a gift from God as it is the language in which He created the universe, and it demonstrates His unchanging character and eternal nature. Math helps point us to there being an intelligent Creator as well as objective truth. Studying math has played an important role in my life, and I’m very grateful to the Lord for it!
